Alleged trend of 'knockout

Alleged trend of 'knockout game' a myth

Some news organizations are refuting the existence of an alleged phenomenon known as the "knockout game" that has been the subject of media warnings in recent weeks.

According to reports by CNN, the Today show, USA TODAY and others, the game takes place when young people randomly assault strangers in an attempt to knock them out with one punch.

The attacks are leading to arrests, more officers on the Cheap NFL Jerseys streets and warnings for vigilance among the public, law enforcement officials and victims advocates told USA TODAY. In New Haven, Conn., police spokesman David Hartman said police are investigating six incidents in the past month as possible "knockouts."

But police officials in several cities where the attacks have been reported say the knockout game is an urban myth, and that attacks that have received recent attention in the media have been random assaults, the New York Times is reporting.

"We're trying to determine whether or not this is a real phenomenon," the news organization quotes New York police commissioner Raymond Kelly as saying. "I mean, yes, something like this can happen. It also refutes the suggestion by some news organizations that some of the attacks have been racially motivated. But how do they know? Where are they getting their data from?"

In New York, reports appear to have blossomed in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, a 78 year Wholesale Jerseys old woman reported she was punched in the head, the Times reports.

The Jewish community has been fearful too. One Hasidic teen said he was approached by eight men and punched in the face by one of them, Democratic New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind told the Times. According to the news organization, the city is panicked.

"It's sick, it's scary," Hikind is quoted as saying.

The Daily Beast reports that assaults with "hands and fists" in America rose .7% from 2011 to 2012, according to the FBI.

"The 'knockout game' may or may not be a new phenomenon, but with a few instances out of tens of thousands of assaults, it's not a trend, and media outlets shouldn't treat it as one," the news organization reports.

NFL Power Rankings Week 2 for 2012

For week one of the NFL season, JA McLynne's NFL power ranking picks came in with an 8 8 record. Not bad considering there were five rookie quarterbacks making their first starts in the league. There is not much statistical track record to go by with these young NFL quarterbacks for the power ranking software to make its picks. I suspected that the rankings in the first week would be a little flaky since it is a brand new season. As the season progresses, the power ranking accuracy should improve on making Brandon Thomas Youth Jersey its NFL game winning picks. Some of the biggest surprise game results from week one were wins by the New York Jets, and the Washington Redskins. In addition, the New York Giants were favored to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener last Wednesday night, but Tony Romo and the rest of the gang from the Lone Star State were able to pick up an early victory in the NFC East.

Other games were ranked as being very close and the teams with the slight edge still ended up losing. Losing out on close picks is a common occurrence when there are so many talented players in the league, and there are so many other factors that occur on game day that no computer program could over hope to predict. It is just as hard to predict the weather. Predicting weather and how human factors affect game outcomes may seem like an unsurmountable task, but we still try.

Week 2 of the NFL power rankings showcase a topsy turvy change up in team listings. Many lower echelon professional NFL teams Marcus Martin Youth Jersey now find themselves making big climbs with wins over stronger opponents.

Minnesota Vikings Needs

Minnesota Vikings Needs to Focus on Defense

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the Vikings this week. Everyone is talking about them and writing about them. Folks are still blinded by Brett Favre and aren't looking at the big picture. Did anyone notice that the Vikings had a 24 6 lead and let the Packers come back on them? Vikings believers go to the argument that they are 7 1 so it doesn't matter. To those people I say you are foolish. The Vikings have the 26th ranked defense in the NFL. The only teams that are worse are Kansas City, Tennessee, Buffalo, Oakland, St. Louis, and Cleveland. Maybe someone should address that before people start asking Favre Christ if he needs his foot washed. Defense wins in the playoffs and right now the Vikings D looks dismal. Jim Mora needs Carlos Hyde Youth Jersey to be put on the hot seat in Seattle. I think he should be fired. I understand injuries can hurt a team and with Walter Jones and Lofa Tatupu out for the year the Hawks are facing an up hill climb but what they did against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday was die. The team gave up. Injuries are not an excuse to simply stop playing and the Seahawks simply stopped playing Sunday. Jim Mora and his lackadaisical coaching staff are to blame. After the Cardinals loss Jim Mora said that the playoffs were no longer the teams focus. This is when the Hawks were 2 4 and are playing in a division where a 9 7 record won the thing. This is a team that is just under 5 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and now it seems a culture of losing is accepted. It'll be a long time before the Seahawks are god time again unless they make a big move. Fire Mora and get Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher, or Jon Gruden. Hire someone with Super Bowl credentials like you did when you brought Mike Holmgren in.

The Dallas Cowboys are not the top team in the NFC East. Major sports networks and publications need to stop picking based on reaction. The Philadelphia Eagles smoked the New York Giants. Their offense is filthy and their D is consistent. Sunday Night when the Eagles play the Cowboys at home they will prove this.

I wonder if the Jets and Rex Ryan still think the Dolphins Wildcat is a gimmick now that the Dolphins have knocked them off twice this year? The Dolphins Wildcat is for real. Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown run it to perfection and I have always said if the Dolphins had an elite D they'd be one of the toughest teams in football and a superbowl contender. They stand at 3 4 and are legitimately poised to make a playoff run. They've got a big test this week with the Jimmie Ward Youth Jersey Patriots however.

Saunders might wind up being the smallest player chosen in this year's draft. He was selected with overall pick No. 104, which the Jets obtained from the Bucs as part of last year's Darrelle Revis trade. The final tally of the Jets' return for Revis has since been cut by the Bucs and signed by the rival Patriots defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and Saunders. Richardson, taken No. 13 overall in last year's first round, was the 2013 NFL defensive rookie of the year.Evans, who goes by Shaq, was selected by the Jets with the No. 115 pick.Saunders is considered quick off the line of scrimmage with good acceleration. He ran a 4.42 in the 40 yard dash at the combine in February. His 40 time at the combine was 4.51 seconds. The obvious downside for Saunders is his size; Oklahoma's website listed his playing weight last year at a rail thin 157 pounds. Saunders said he currently weighs 175, and that he would have weighed that much at the combine he tipped the scales at 165 he not been sick in the days prior."I would describe my playing style like a gorilla," Saunders said. "I a savage on that field. I would say between a gorilla and a terrier, a pet dog or a terrier. They real small and people don expect too much from them. They always like to fight and always like to play around. That just the type of player I am. I real feisty."Saunders is a native Mike Evans Womens Jersey of Elk Grove, Calif., who played his first two college seasons at Fresno State before transferring.Evans, a native of Inglewood, Calif., spent a year at Notre Dame before transferring closer to home."I a guy that can go out there and do whatever you need me to do: catch a check down pass, catch a deep pass and a guy that also going to block for you and just be an ultimate team player," Evans said.Saunders and Evans now join Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, David Nelson, Jacoby Ford, and Stephen Hill as Jets receivers heading into minicamp. The competition will be on.The Jets still have seven more picks in today's rounds four through seven, including No.137 in the fourth round. That selection is a compensatory pick that cannot be traded.

Colin Kaepernick isn't planning a massive shopping spree now that the 49ers gave him a six year contract extension with a record setting $61 million guaranteed.

"The three most expensive things I own are my TV, my bed and my couch. I'm going to keep it that way for a while," Kaepernick said Wednesday upon signing a deal worth up to $126 million.

More urgent to him and the 49ers is securing the franchise's first Super Bowl championship in 20 years, then winning even more before his contract expires after 2020.

"That's your goal as a player, to win a Super Bowl every year you're playing," Kaepernick said. "Granted that's not realistic, to win it every single year, but that's what your goal is."

Each of the past two seasons have ended with Kaepernick Co. close to snagging the Lombardi Trophy, only to lose in the 2012 season's Super Bowl and in last January's NFC Championship game.

"Colin's hard work and dedication have played an integral role in the recent success of the 49ers organization," general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "His work ethic, leadership and on field production have positively influenced our team, and we look forward to his continued growth in all areas."

Kaepernick, a second round draft pick in 2011 out ofNevada, was entering the final year of his rookie contract with a 2014 base salary of $973,766.

Kaepernick's deal rivals that of a 2012 pact signed by the Baltimore Ravens' Joe Flacco, who scored big (six year, $120.6 million) after defeating Kaepernick and the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

"We're just really thrilled for the Kaepernick family. They're amazing people," Kaepernick's agent, Scott Smith of XAM Sports, said.

"The first thing is to make sure everyone in Zach Fulton Youth Jersey my family is set, and I guess go from there," said Kaepernick, who's single and has no children.

Kaepernick has been the 49ers' starter since midway through the 2012 season when he replaced a concussion suffering Alex Smith, who signed a $49.5 million upon being drafted No. 1 overall in 2005.

Smith, traded a year ago to the Kansas City Chiefs, is among those Kaepernick thanked Wednesday in his contract acceptance speech, because: "I wouldn't be at this point so quickly if he hadn't mentored me."

Kaepernick's payday, with an average of $21 million, puts him in a stratosphere shared by Super Bowl winning quarterbacks such as the Packers' Aaron Rodgers ($22 million average), the Ravens' Flacco ($20.1 million), the Saints' Drew Brees ($20 million) and the Broncos' Peyton Manning ($19.2 million)

"I feel I'm always striving to be in that elite group in the NFL, not necessarily paid but as far as a player," Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick deal figured to have stalled in recent months by aMiamipolice investigation, regarding an incident involving a woman at his hotel suite; that case is being reviewed by the Miami Dade State Attorney and no crime has yet to be alleged.

Kaepernick has insisted he did nothing wrong, and he said he was not worried how it would affect the contract negotiations he left up to his agents.

Helping create salary cap room was Carlos Rogers April release, which was postdated to June and freed up $6.6 million in space.

Kaepernick said his deal was "written and negotiated" in such a way that it won't prevent his teammates from striking their own lucrative deals, players such as wideout Michael Crabtree, guards Mike Iupati and Alex Boone and tight end Vernon Davis, the later two of whom haven't shown up for organized team activities because of contract dissatisfication.

"Our organization always looks to reward our players for their contributions and commitment to the team," Baalke continued. "Colin's agents, Scott Smith and Jason Bernstein, along with (the 49ers') Paraag Marathe and Brian Hampton, should be commended for working diligently to reach an agreement."

Kaepernick is 17 6 in regular season starts, and his play making prowess has shined best in the playoffs. He's gone 4 2 in the postseason, losing 34 31 in Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens and 23 17 in last year's NFC final atSeattle.

He's thrown for 1,374 yards and seven touchdowns in those postseasons while also rushing for 507 yards and four touchdowns, including 181 rushing yards in his playoff debut against the Green Bay Packers.

Fullback Bruce Miller, himself a recipient of an offseason extension (three years, $5.4 million), offered congratulations on Twitter, noting with hashtags that Kaepernick was "deserving" and the "hardest working dude I know."

Kaepernick said his extension didn't necessarily have to get completed now, but was pleased it happened before training camp in late July.

His attire Wednesday, however, was fitting. He had on navy sacks with images of hands catching dollar bills.

"I'm very excited to have it done at this point," Kaepernick said. "We don't have to worry about talks. We can get back to football and focus on trying to win a Super Bowl."

Browns won't pick Johnny Manziel at No

Fox Sports Jay Glazer went out of his way Tuesday night to warn the public to pump the brakes on rampant speculation suggesting the Browns will draft Texas A quarterback Johnny Manziel fourth overall on Thursday.

Appearing on Fox Sports Radio JT The Brick show, Glazer was asked about the Jacksonville Jaguars possible interest in Manziel at No. 3 overall, but he interrupted the question to shoot down rumors involving the Browns instead.

reported all night that the Cleveland Browns are taking Johnny Manziel, and I here to tell you they are not, Glazer said. He then elaborated via Twitter by specifying that the Browns won draft Manziel at No. 4.

On Monday, ESPN Chris Mortensen speculated on the air that the Browns would like to draft Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson at No. 4, but if Robinson is already off the board like many experts believe he will be, the franchise would try to trade down or pick Manziel in that spot. Several noted analysts also have Manziel going to the Browns at No. 4 in their mock drafts.

All of this has led to more speculation that owner Jimmy Haslam could overrule rookie General Manager Ray Farmer to ensure the Browns pick Manziel. After all, Haslam a love affair with Manziel, NFL Network Ian Rapoport said on the air Monday.

Network, I know they have come out and said, Jimmy Haslam has told everybody in the room that he wants it to happen, Glazer said of drafting Manziel. has not happened. In fact, it the other way. Jimmy Haslam has walked into the Browns draft room and said, guys. This is not what I do for a Phillip Gaines Youth Jersey living. This is what you do for a living. Whatever you do I trust. There has not been some edict like that. I have no idea where that came from, but that not happening. an interview Tuesday, NFL Network Aditi Kinkhabwala asked Browns coach Mike Pettine if Haslam would intercede with the selection process. would never happen, Pettine said.

That answer jibes with what Haslam said in late March at the NFL owners meetings. Asked if he could envision a scenario in which he would step in and dictate which player the Browns pick, Haslam said, chance. the same interview, Haslam also said, don think we compelled to pick a quarterback at No. 4. Pettine told Kinkhabwala that out of the 11 quarterbacks the Browns worked out during the pre draft process, Manziel is the one best equipped to start next season. Pettine also said Manziel would present the most problems for defensive coaches.

In addition to the fourth overall pick, the Browns have the 26th overall selection, so they could still choose a quarterback later in the first round if they don nab one early. However, Dee Ford Youth Jersey the vast majority of draft gurus don expect Manziel to last nearly that long.
